The Currency of Trust: How Content Converts to Real Business

What triggers the instinct to buy services?

A client has to trust that you can help them solve their problem.

In my case, a client has to trust that I can help them design and implement flexible work models that empower employees and fuel the business.

It’s likely I don’t need more content.

Here’s the content I offer for free:

  • 2.5 years Podcast (hosting & guesting)

  • 5 years of LinkedIn including 3 newsletters

  • Substack

  • Community

  • Threads

  • Twitter (weaning myself)

  • Instagram

  • YouTube

  • Pinterest

  • TikTok

  • Press/Media

With the podcasting alone, you can immerse yourself into how I think - there is more that 50 hours of me speaking about hybrid/remote and the future of work. I publish only quarterly so my metrics are skewed but when I publish, I’m regularly topping the leadership, management and career charts.

Content isn’t magic but it can help you trust. As per Oxford trust researcher Rachel Botsman, here are 5 questions needed for making trust decisions:

1. Are you making a decision based on familiarity?

2. Are you making a decision based on convenience?

3. Are you making a decision based on confidence or competence?

4. Are you making a decision based on capability or character?

5. Are you making a decision based on speed?

Speed can be the enemy of trust and too often convenience trumps trust. Depth of content helps us slow down and focus on the competence and capability.

The other thing that can help is a smaller offer so you can get to know me and understand how I work. My competitive advantage is 20 years of operations and immersion in change, employee engagement, influence and power. I connect abstract concepts to operations. Ideas are great but it’s the action that matters.

Hybrid/remote done well is behaviour change - it’s culture work that can realistically take 12-18 months. That’s a big trust leap when you don’t know me.

So what can I offer that starts with a smaller commitment?

  • Speaking services

  • Workshops

  • Current state audit

I’ll be writing about these services in more detail over the next day or two.
